Debussy, la musique et les arts will be on display until June 11^th for visitors to view paintings, drawings, letters and photos which affected the artist or influenced his work.

The various pieces come from the collections of three families who supported Debussy during his most difficult years. They reflect the composer’s universe and his love for the artistic avant-garde.

Visitors can admire work by Edvard Munch, Edgar Degas and Edouard Manet along with original editions by André Gide, Pierre Louÿs and even Paul Valéry.

There will also be conferences, concerts and workshops alongside this pictorial, visual and musical exhibition!

The construction project was initiated by Louis XIV who wanted to have a dedicated place for disabled war veterans. Eight projects were submitted to the Sun King who finally selected the one presented by young Libéral Bruant.

At the age of 36, Bruant’s vision included a complex of monumental buildings, arranged around five courtyards with the largest one in the centre. Based on the design of the Escorial – Philip II of Spain’s monastery palace – the building currently houses 4 museums, including the Army museum.

This cosy little cabaret, the oldest in Paris, has been hosting evenings of song, laughter and poetry for audiences to enjoy for almost 150 years.

This little building reflects how the area was when the cabaret first opened in 1875. The cabaret owes its name to the caricaturist André Gill who was commissioned to paint the sign and depicted a rabbit hopping over a casserole dish.

The picture was nicknamed “le lapin à Gill” (literally translates as “Gill’s rabbit”) and the homonym inspired the cabaret’s current name.

Many artists come here to express themselves and share their work. Claude Nougaro began his career here and the then unknown Picasso and Apollinaire often came here.

Fascinating exhibition in Paris about “Gaston Febus”, an iconic 14^th century figure

The exhibition has been organised by the Musée de Cluny, Bibliothèque Nationale de France and Musée National du Château de Pau (where it will be displayed between March and June) and tells the story of Gaston Fébus’ life and work.

Not only was he Count of Foix but he was also a successful poet and writer! He wrote the famous Livre de chasse, an illustrated manuscript about fox hunting which was used as a reference book for the animal world for several centuries.

He was also an excellent politician who knew how to make the most out of the eternal conflict between the French and English monarchies to claim Béarn’s autonomy.

Did you know that Foix and Orthez still use the Occitan motto of Febus : Tòca-i se gausas which translates as “Touch if you dare“?

Mur des Je t’aime, iconic location for loving couples in Paris

Throughout the year and especially in the run-up to Valentine’s Day, lovers from all over the world come for a walk and to have a photo taken in front of this imaginative piece whose message is both peaceful and unifying.

Its creator, Frédéric Baron, spent a long time collecting translations of “I love you” in over 300 languages to create a wall of hundreds of enamelled lava tiles with the universal phrase engraved on them in Basque, Kyrgyz and even Reunionese Creole.

With the help of the calligrapher Claire Kito, Baron’s idea was to erect a wall which, unlike other walls, unites people rather than separates them. In the face of world violence and hardship, the one of a kind wall has become an iconic location for loving couples.
